A short guide to getting HerdMaster running, from installing the app to importing your records and keeping up with the daily work. No prior setup needed.
Install the app
At launch, HerdMaster is free to download on the App Store. HerdMaster runs on iPhone and iPad. Requires iOS 26 or iPadOS 26 or later. Creating a HerdMaster account requires an internet connection to complete eligibility and account setup steps. Account holders must be at least 18. A person age 13 through 17 may use HerdMaster only through an account created and maintained by their parent or legal guardian, using the adult's own email and credentials. Children under 13 may not use the app. Complete email verification and the required account checks before adding or importing your herd.
Add or import your herd
However your records live now, there's a path in. Pick the one that fits, you can mix and match later.
Start fresh
Add animals by hand and link pedigrees as you go. Best for a small herd or a clean start.
From Evans
Export your Evans XML and import animals, winnings, and litters in one step. Evans XML is the primary and recommended import path. Evans HTM and Evans text-based PDF pedigree import are fallbacks for older exports when XML is unavailable. PDF import supports text-based PDFs only, not scanned or image-only PDFs. Evans XML and Evans HTM both require Breeder or Show Breeder. Evans text-based PDF import requires Show Breeder.
From Everbreed
Everbreed Animals CSV and Litters CSV exports, or a public Everbreed pedigree link. Both CSV imports require a Breeder or Show Breeder plan.

Build your pedigrees
Set each animal's sire and dam and HerdMaster assembles pedigrees showing the animal plus three ancestor generations. Scroll it full-screen to check your lines, see whether each pedigree is partial or complete, and export a clean PDF to print or hand to a buyer. Imported animals arrive with their trees filled from the export, so there's nothing to retype.
Track the daily work
Once your herd is in, HerdMaster keeps the day running. Most of this happens in a few taps, right from the barn.
- Record breedings. Log a pairing in seconds and HerdMaster tracks the timeline, so you know when to expect the next litter.
- Log litters and kit weights. Record each litter as it's born, then track weights over time to spot your strongest growers early.
- Set up health records. Keep weights, treatments, and notes attached to each animal, on whatever schedule you set.
- Review what's coming up. Your task list and breeding calendar surface due litters, follow-ups, and to-dos so nothing slips.
Offline use
Creating an account and signing in require an internet connection. After sign-in and completion of any required account checks, you can work with locally stored herd records offline. Online features, including email verification, Everbreed public-link import, and purchases, require an internet connection. The limited iCloud sync pilot is temporarily paused and is not currently available.
